We all know a picture paints a thousand words. So what types of words are we conjuring up with the images we choose to depict women in our advertising campaigns? Are they a true reflection of the evolving roles of women or are they merely reinforcing a stereotype?
In our industry we’re in a position to create campaigns that mirror everything that’s great about our world. If we’re lucky enough our work hits the sweet spot that gets people talking.
So we should be up for telling a powerful story of women’s evolving roles through imagery. What does it mean to be a modern day mother? A leader? A woman who runs marathons? A young girl who likes basketball?
To demonstrate the power of an image firsthand to Sydney’s creative community, we’ve invited some of the industry’s leading creative figures to share their personal thoughts and feelings around a selection of images curated by Getty Images.
Our panel:
Dhanu Sant, Creative Director, Isobar
With over 15 years in India, Asia and Australia in digital and ATL agencies, Dhanu has often been described as a creative powerhouse who is strategic, nimble and leads from the front. We should also mention her sense of humour is legendary.
Gavin McLeod, ECD, R/GA
Gavin really is one of the nicest people in advertising who just so happens to have one of the most enviable portfolios. His most recent achievement has been the rapid success of R/GA in Australia. In just over a year the agency grew from four to forty.
Micha Schwing, Clobal Creative Director of Content Strategy, Getty Images
A regular speaker at industry events across Europe and Asia, we’re lucky enough to enjoy firsthand Micha’s views on visual trends depicting women. With her degrees in photography and advertising, including a recently completed Masters in Sociology at Goldsmiths College in London we feel she won’t be too shabby on the subject matter for the night.
Chairing the panel will be Yasmin Quemard, leader of Sydney SheSays
