Celebrating the arrival of the year of the pig in February 2019, this festival saw Kensington Street in Sydney’s Chippendale come alive with family friendly and fun vibes for a day of celebration.
Daytime programming included face painting, petting farm, origami workshops, paper crafts to make pig tails and noses. Free games included pop the pig, feed the pig and pin the tail on the pig. Free balloons were quickly snapped up quickly and the line for free caricatures old was steady all evening. Performances by traditional Chinese dancers, a visit from the Goddess of Fortune and a Lunar New Year lion brought traditional elements of celebration to the street. DJs and dancers programmed by Soul of Sydney and Soul Patrol had visitors celebrating with happy smiles as they danced the night away.
Programming was designed to attract new audiences to the precinct and featured alongside special offers from the retailers to entice customers to try the restaurants and hawkers from Spice Alley.
